In the context of creating relations with the regional and international organizations working in Sudan

providing some sort of humanitarian services or assistance, Sudan Vision Interviewed Sayed Shahnawaz Ali Country Director of the Islamic Relief Sudan IRS to  highlight  IRS activities and works as charity organization works  some areas and  states of Sudan.

Q: You are welcome in Sudan vision and we would like you to shed light on the ISR activities?
A: Yes. Thank you, Islamic Relief Sudan basically is a UK charity organization started work worldwide and began working in Sudan in 1984, helping the Sudanese communities caught up in devastating famine. This was Islamic relief first ever humanitarian response and officially set up its work in field office began its operations in 1991. At that time we began in Khartoum state. Provided help to displaced and refugees in Khartoum state, then followed by Darfur as central Darfur, some kind of operations in West Darfur.
In east of Sudan we are operating  in Kassala and Gedaref, meanwhile South and west Kordufan , but we have not any programs in the Red Sea state at this moment. We have plans to operate in other locations , as you know some sort of short term projects, including food security , where there are problems of water .But our  focus programming remains  on these three areas I mentioned .
We as an organization we are currently reporting advanced programs, addressing the problems in a comprehensive manner so if a family or a village lack services in water , sanitation , health , education , nutrition , food security so our program tries to address these issues and problems . The idea it to provide food solutions for people, but not to make them dependent forever, we just support and help them. We transform in our programs we try to give them in a way that the community. We believe that people of Sudan are strong enough relying on their own selves.
We would like to help them but the idea is not based on permanent assistance for years and years .In the process we are also concern with our strategy to provide some sort of assistance in training of staff for some bodies which have high refuge, as we see the skill is not enough, particularly in the health sector, at least they will be able to reach. We provide assistance and help in the field of health and medicine to the staff who work in the health sector in these areas at the local communities in order to achieve their work.
Q: What is mission and vision of the IRS?
A: IRS is working under the umbrella of the Islamic Relief Worldwide IRW, it is inspired by Islamic Values, and is working on mobilizing resources, building partnerships, and IRS has developed its strategy during the last five years to be with Sudan Vision, as a whole country. IRS has good relation with Sudan Government as well as the Sudanese people.
Q: What are the areas that benefit from IRS’ programs?
A: The areas that benefit from our programs include Khartoum, where have support to the people ,displaced and refugees .Blue Nile, North Kordofan , South Korofan , Central Darfur and some kind of assistance in West Darfur. We began our work in Darfur shortly after fighting erupted in the region .IRS continues to mange camps in West Darfur , which provide people who have fled the violence with the shelter , water and sanitation .We have also work in the East of Sudan , in Kassala and Gedarif , we don’t have any work in the Red Seas at this moment .
We have programs of short terms like food security, water, but our focus programming remains in these states. We as organization we currently program supporting as an example if there is small has lack in services ,we provide services like sanitation , water , health care ,education , nutrition. The idea is to support people, to find solutions but not to make them dependent on the IRS, and to guide them to support and help the local communities’ .We try to deliver services to them. The idea is to help people; we don’t want to make people dependent, said Ali.
Q: What are other services IRS provides in these areas?
A: We also run a primary health clinic, in the health sector, medical doctors. Communities have their own skills we think that these people to struggle .We help them but the idea is not to help them forever,
People want to go back to their villages, their regions,
As an organization we don’t make any development, but any decision has any relation with the community, services the community receives, strategies. I think also any decision should be taken ,even doors  to development enable to exchange ,this is allow the feedback that improvement can develop the Sudan .You know open the doors ,open channels , then will be more resolves .
Q: What are the future plans of the Islamic Relief Sudan ISR?
A: The future plans of ISR in Sudan represented into the v government, in that way to develop local communities .we are trying to make sure that the local community are engaged, because we construct any project, but this very difficult .Sudan has this opportunity .Sudan has resources to develop them .We would like to support them, but again they have limitation .What we do we provide support to the responsibility in.
Sudan government is facilitating in providing these services, at that time people I’m sure when we are talking about the return of people to their own villages. As I saw the there is some of contribution to the neighboring countries.
Q: To what extent do you think the political stability affect on the stability of these communities?
A: As you know we are charity organization. IRS has not political base. It works for the sake of people. It never works as a permanent organization stay in Sudan forever, but it helps and supports in providing such humanitarian aids to improve life.
Q: What are other programs and fields do the IRS work in?
A:  We are running an orphan sponsorship in Sudan; our work in the country includes both emergency relief and development.
Q: Do you have any messages to the mass media in general and to Sudan vision?
A: We call on the mass media to visit the areas that need support and help not to depend on hearing from the IRS staff only, in order to reflect what they have actually seen at the ground .To hear the people to contact them. We thank Sudan vision for this opportunity to highlight the IRS activities and works in Sudan.
