Sudan Vision (Business and Finance) has conducted an interview with the Professor Salah E.O. Mahgoub

who published a recent book to talk about the controversial that taking place among food experts on the GMF which considered as a talk of hour, the discussed issues related to the consumers, supporters and opponents of the GMF idea and the law that regulates it.

Who’s Salah

Prof. Salah is one of the prominent experts in the field of agriculture and food; he was graduated at the University of Khartoum faculty of agriculture in 1972, then he traveled to England for further studies, during 1980 up to 1994 he has been studying in Britain due to scholarship grant of Fulbright program organized by the government of British, he has conducted research concerns with food distribution system which has an economic dimension, the research focuses on the impact of the influx from rural areas to urban. While he was interviewing by Sudan Vision he briefed on the conception of GMF and summarized the message of his book “as a food science specialist” I look for to new food products development, consumers were confused, in this book I want make glance on the historical background on GMF which existed since early time, it happens naturally to animals, plants and even fish, so food modified for eating our manufacturing, but in fact GMF process happens to the sources of the food.
What is new about it is the intervention of technology in form of Genetic Engineering by transferring desired characteristics of living organism into another, which means your changing or modifying the recipient organism, so you are not modifying the food, you modify the source of the food, the change is occurred to cells precisely added Salah who figured out the benefits, he disclosed that “the modified tomatoes” for instance do not soft quickly and can stores for a long time without damage also it resists diseases and insects.

Controversial Views

As regard to the global controversial Salah said “any life activity has advantages and disadvantages” we must provide the negatives and positives and let the consumers to choose whether to use GMF or not, here I expose the justifications of the controversial parts, those who anti to GMF says it affect the environment and considered it as an interfering in Allah’s power, also they believe that it doesn’t solve the problems of food in the world appealing to other ways to improve food situation.
While the supporters of the idea says GMF increase food production “quality and quantity) all UN agencies stand with idea according to scientific research, but the opponents accused UN agencies of serving the interests of the biggest companies working in this field continued Salah who revealed that UN agencies defend their stances saying “for more than 30 years people use MGF and no symptoms of and diseases appeared to consumers alongside no scientific evidence proves the allegation.
He assured the US biggest company for Food and Drug Administration FDA has proved that GMF doesn’t harm man.

In my book GMF I want bring new ideas and methods to deal with issue, I aimed at providing balance and comprehensive information, all the published books about the process of GMF or about the justifications of supporters and opponents to the idea. I tried to review all these thoughts.
