Parliament Calls on SMO to Control Price Hike
Khartoum – National Assembly Deputy Chair Ms Samia Ahmed Mohamed has called on all competent organs to undertake their roles to control the market by preventing price hike.
Speaking to reporters yesterday at the Parliament premises, Ms Samia said the Standards and Metrology organization is not undertaking its full role, saying the organization should determine the real price of commodities and the local organs should also see to it that prices do not go up.
The absence of an effective control led to the current price hike in the markets, she said, adding the increase of prices in the market is unjustifiable and irresponsible on the part of traders.
She said price control needs consolidation of efforts, calling on concerned authorities to see to it that prices of all commodities are displayed at shops and to try to control the current price hike in the market.
She added that the Parliament is in contact with the Ministries of the economic sector especially the Minister of Finance who will present a quarterly report to the House after Eid.
Ms Samia said there were indications that economy had improved over the past period by virtue of successful farming season and lucrative mining.
