DRA Officials Released after Abduction
An armed group attacked the compound of the ministries of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) in El Fashir in North Darfur state; namely; they attacked the Ministry of Environment, Youth, and Sports and the Commission of Peace and Reconciliation. They have taken the minister of youth and sports Hussein Abd Alrahman hostage along with a number of his ministry's employees. The hostages were later released following some negotiations.
Head of DRA Dr. Altijani Assisi said in a press conference that the armed group who carried out the attack has been drumming up anarchic acts for months now.
He added: "Had it not been for the negotiations that led to releasing the hostages between the state authorities and the armed group that; a crisis could have happened." He continued: "This group wants to hinder the peace process but the DRA will neither stop nor be hindered by these groups."
Assisi said they are keeping a close watch on the activity of the armed group in the state and the federal authorities were notified. He pointed out the importance of banning the bearing of arms inside towns and cities and excluding regular forces only; that is, to keep El Fashir assault free.
DRA welcomed the joining of Lieutenant General Bakhiet Abd Allah Abd Alkareem to the peace process.
On their part; the IDP leaders in Abu Shook, Zamzam, and Alsalam camps called on the government and peace-agreement-signatory armed movements to implement the security arrangements in order to realize security and stability.
They called on the state government to put an end to the security irregularities in the camps; especially the random firing of rounds of bullets.
In a press release they issued; the camp leaders commended the role played by the government of North Darfur and the armed forces in stabilizing conditions following the events in Kutum recently.
Governor of North Darfur Osman Yousif Kibir on his part confirmed the stability of situations in Kutum and pointed out that the committee which was headed by the deputy governor came a long way towards pacifying things and restoring them to normal.
Kibir declared his government's commitment to put an end to any attempt to destabilize the security and stability of the camps.
