Presidents Al Bashir, Kiir to Hold Summit on 22nd September

Khartoum – SPLM leading figure Dr. Luka Biong has revealed a prospective summit meeting between President Al Bashir and President Salva Kiir Mayardit on 22nd September to resolve all outstanding issues.
Speaking to Sudan's Al Sahafa Newspaper on Sunday, Biong said the AU mediator Thabo Mbeki would propose to the upcoming summit a final solution to the dispute over Abyei territory should the two parties fail to strike a deal.
The Abyei Oversight Committee (AOC) wrapped up a meeting yesterday without reaching an agreement on controversial issues.
President Al Bashir and President Kiir would hold a summit meeting on 22nd September in Addis Ababa to discuss the issue of Abyei and to push negotiations on all pending issues between the two countries, Biong said.
"Should the two parties fail to reach an agreement, Mbeki will propose a final solution" he added.
He confirmed leaks to the effect that South Sudan proposed the conduct of an UN-supervised referendum in Abyei by the turn of current year.
With regard to meeting of the AOC, he said it was concluded without an agreement, adding that even the previous agreements concluded between the two parties are yet to be implemented.
He said Khartoum is unwilling to sign the agreement regarding a joint mechanism to oversee humanitarian aid and is insisting on the introduction of new terms to the agreement.
