Ministry of Health says Three States will be Free of Malaria by Turn of the Year
Khartoum - Federal Ministry of Health announced that three states would be free of malaria by the end of the year, these are, Western Darfur, Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile and expected eradication of malaria in four states by the end of the year 2015, these are, Khartoum, Northern, River Nile and Gezira.
The said ministry launched the national campaign for distribution of mosquito nets in the Blue Nile State, targeting more than 3 million people in 9 states, bringing the number of nets to 5 million to about 10 million people by the end of this year.
Blue Nile Governor, Major General Al-Hadi Bushra praised, in the inauguration ceremony, the humanitarian role of international organizations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and United Nations Development Fund for their support to health, stressing his government's commitment to support the work of malaria control.
Health Minister in the state, Huwaida Yassin acknowledged that malaria is still the first health problem, pledging to work to reduce the negative effects of the fall.
Representative of the national program to combat malaria confirmed that the distribution came in time to overcome the effects of the fall, as mosquito nets is the most effective means to combat the disease.
