NCP: Parties May Agree on Participation of all Citizens in Abyei Referendum

Khartoum – National Congress Party (NCP) leading figure Dr. Rabie Abdul Atti has revealed a trend that all parties are likely to converge on a compromise whereby Abyei referendum would be conducted with the participation of all citizens regardless of their tribes.

Abyei is hinged to referendum and all citizens have the right to participate in the exercise, Abdul Atti said.

With regard to the Blue Nile and South Kordofan, he said the Government does not cooperate with the SPLM-N; rather it cooperates with the people of the two areas to implement the popular consultations to complete the implementation of the two protocols.

For the Government, Malik Agar is a rebel and if we are to talk to him then we should talk to him as a rebel from Sudan not South Sudan. Our condition is that they should disengage from South Sudan, he said.

Problems in the two areas could be resolved should others demonstrate a desire for peace and realize that issues of the two areas have nothing to do with South Sudan.
