Al Bashir Honours Graduation Ceremony at Higher Academy for Strategic and Security Studies

Atta Declares Establishment of Sudan's Strategic Information Centre
Khartoum – President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Hassan Al Bashir, honoured yesterday the graduation ceremony of scholars of master degree in strategic and security studies, national security fellowship (6) and Post-graduate Diploma (4) at the High Academy for Strategic and Security Studies in presence of many executive, security and police organs.

Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Academy and Director General of the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) First Lieutenant General (PSC) Engineer Mohamed Atta Al-Maula Abbas revealed the establishment of Strategic Studies and Research Section at the Academy to produce researches related to goals of the Academy in addition to the establishment of Centre for Academic Information tasked to monitor and gather information pertinent to Sudan's vital area and make these information available for strategic research purposes and for decision-makers. The centre will also gather all materials written about Sudan within and abroad including materials planned to be written about Sudan in future.

He said the Academy would launch during the forthcoming period educational programmes for master and PhD degrees to bridge the gap in the field of national strategic and security studies. He added that the Academy has become a mechanism for communication and interaction with sisterly and friendly countries and it is opened to the world without bias as it has extended its interaction with Ethiopia, Egypt, Turkey, Austria, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Libya and other countries.

At the request of the African Centre on Combating Terrorism, the Academy dispatched over the past months a training mission to Gambia and the Gambian security services, police and army have benefited a great deal from the trainings, Lt. Gen. Atta said.

Lt. Gen. Atta highlighted the efforts exerted by the Academy's centre for training leaders which runs short courses to build capacities of security and civil staff and to hold scientific forums on vital and hot issues to promote efforts of development and security in the country.

The Director General congratulated the two batches of graduates, saying the Board of Trustees would be expanded to include various specializations relevant to the activities of the Academy and strategic and security studies, adding that the Academy is renamed the High Academy for Strategic and Security Studies instead of the High Security Academy.

Khamis Kajo Kunda, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, affirmed the Ministry's support to the programmes of the Academy, praising its efforts in the field of development of scientific research.

Director of the Academy Prof. Shamsueldin Zain Al-Abdeen indicated the importance of higher education in the renaissance of nations in promoting values and participation, citing the great expansion taking place in higher education in Sudan. He said the Academy succeeded in redressing shortage of professionals and cadres in various fields.

Representative of graduates also addressed the ceremony affirming full support to state policies.

The Academy awarded honorary doctorate to Suleiman Sule from Turkey and distributed certificates to graduates.
