Al Bashir, Morsi to Meet on the Sidelines of AU Summit
Cairo/Khartoum – Presidential Assistant Dr. Nafie Ali Nafie, has revealed a prospective meeting between President Al Bashir and President Morsi of Egypt on the fringes of the AU summit scheduled for mid July.
Nafie, who met with President Morsi in Cairo, told reporters that they discussed the overall situation in the Sudan especially economic cooperation, food production and investment between the two countries.
Nafie, who is currently in Cairo, held talks with the Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil Al-Arabi and discussed with him various issues related to developments in the Arab arena.
“Apart from Sudan, we discussed the Palestinian issue, the situation in Syria and other African issues” Nabil said.
Nafie, for his part, told reporters that he discussed with Al-Arabi the situation in the Sudan and the Arab region, expressing optimism that the Arab League would open up to Africa and the world.
The Presidential aide also held a joint meeting with leaders of Egypt’s Al-Wafd party especially Dr. Al-Sayed Al-Badawi. “We discussed with Al-Badawi the overall Arab issues of mutual concern” he said, adding that the Wafd party opened the door wide for dialogue between Egypt and Sudan.
“We briefed him on the situation in Sudan and relationship between the North and South and we are keen to resolve problems between Sudan and South Sudan for the greater interest of the Nile Valley and economic integration “Nafie said.
“We discussed the political situations in Egypt and Sudan and the Presidential Aide assured us that the crisis between Sudan and South Sudan has been overcome” Al-Badawi said, adding that the economic measures taken by Khartoum and the internal situation in Egypt have also been reviewed.
