White Nile Sugar Factory, Valuable Addition to Economy
The President of the Republic Omar Al Bashir inaugurated yesterday Wednesday the "White Nile Sugar Factory" under the shadow of the current challenges the country is facing, but the Sudanese facilitated the obstacles that postponed the inauguration for three months, major obstacle of which is deciphering the operation code by Sudanese and foreign experts.
The Most Integrated Sugar Manufacturing Project in Africa
White Nile sugar project is one of the biggest sugar manufacturing plants in Africa, a project that is going to contribute to the development of the Sudanese economy. The factory is going to kick off with a production capacity of 225 Million tons and will operate with its maximum operational capacity by 2014, a capacity that will satisfy the local demand and provides a surplus for export to neighboring countries. The factory is also going to produce several byproducts and generates electricity from sugar waste to meet its own needs of electricity and supply the national electricity network with more than 50 mega Watts.
The factory is also going to produce around 50 liters of Ethanol and 100 thousand tons of fodder and will amount to 500 thousand in two years, enough for local; demands and export.

The factory will contribute to increasing livestock numbers and will develop the poultry industry. In addition to that it will provide many job opportunities for all the people of Sudan and White Nile State in particular.
Self-Sufficiency
Economic expert Mohammed Alnayer said that when the factory reaches the stage of full-capacity production, the country will be completely self-sufficient regarding sugar, a thing that will reduce the demand for foreign currency allowing the country's economy to flourish.
Mohammed Alnayer said in statement to Sudan Vision that the current gap of sugar in the country is 450 thousand tons, and when the factory reaches the stage of full-capacity production, it will meet the local demand and have a surplus for export, not to mention that it will secure employment for local labor and develop the area.

On his part the economic expert Hafiz Ibrahim commended the step of inaugurating the factory saying it is a step in the proper course of development. He added that the government has started to exploit the available agricultural resources and turn them into manufactured products, a thing that will increase the reserves of foreign currency and create more Value Added Tax (VAT).
Hafiz added that the factory will represent an important shift in the area and will provide many opportunities of labor, adding that the factory does not only produce sugar, but other byproducts as well such as fodder, molasses, and ethanol that will represent additional revenues for the country if used properly.
