Taha to Address Darfur People’s Conference mid July

Khartoum -- The First Vice-President Ali Osman Taha will address the activities of Darfur People’s conference in El-Fashir, North Darfur, to be organized by Darfur Regional Authority mid July, which will be attended by Qatari Mediation, international and regional organizations, the United Nations/African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID); besides Darfur leaders in the center and other states.
“The people of Darfur are able to overcome all past bitterness and work for peace and development in all parts of the region,” Dr. Al-Tijani Al-Sisi, the Chairman of Darfur Regional Authority, affirmed.  He reiterated the Authority’s commitment to boosting peace, security, stability and creating opportunities for sustainable development in the region of Darfur.
“The conference is not an alternative to the Darfur-Darfur-Dialogue as many assume, rather it will pave the way for it,” Dr. Al-Sisi assured while addressing in El-Fashir the first meeting of a high committee for the Darfur people’s conference. He said the conference is entirely different from the Darfur-Darfur Dialogue in that it starts from the grassroots and that its activities will be co-organized by UNAMID and Qatar.
The chairman of the Darfur Authority said that the conference is aimed at mobilizing capabilities, summoning energies and promote the spirit of initiative to prepare climate suitable for serving the homeland, in addition to attracting necessary popular, political and diplomatic support for the implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur, and achieving a sustainable development, inculcating the concepts of collective work, restoring social fabric and creating suitable climate for Darfur-Darfur-Dialogue.
Al-Sisi expressed his confidence in sub-committees for Darfur people’s conference to play their role appropriately in making the conference a success.
North Darfur’s Governor, Mohamed Yousif Kibir announced his government’s commitment to cooperate with the Regional Authority in order to make the conference a success, pointing out the importance of holding this conference at this stage.  He explained the tasks and powers of the committees.
Earlier, the Governor of North Darfur issued a decision to form high committees for the conference under his chairmanship and the sub-committees under the chairmanship of the Regional Authority and the State’s government; besides executive and legislative leaders from the state.
