Tripartite Mechanism Meets in El-Fashir

El-Fashir – The joint tripartite mechanism which includes the Sudanese Government, African Union and the United Nations held a meeting, yesterday, in UNAMID Headquarters where the executive issues regarding the UNAMID and the developments on the ground were discussed.
For his part, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary, Rahmatallah Mohammed Osman, affirmed Sudan's commitment to provide all facilitation to achieve peace in Darfur.
He added that UNAMID has a great role towards Doha Agreement considering the meeting as foundation stone for dealing with peace issues in Darfur through consultation.
On his part, Under-Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations, Hervé Ladsous, urged the Sudanese government to boost the joint cooperation to protect the civilians and provide the humanitarian assistance.
He said that the criminal activity in the area still represents a great obstacle for UNAMID, calling on the Sudanese authorities to move from the relief to early recovery stage, adding that the issue of reviewing the UNAMID troops in Darfur was referred to the UNSC, revealing conduction of several training courses and capacity building workshops in Darfur during next July for 700 UNAMID troops.
Meanwhile, he urged the non-signatory armed movements to join Doha Document for peace in Darfur.
He disclosed that the mechanism meeting paved the way for boosting the cooperation between the concerned parties.
For his part, AUPSC Ramadan Lamamre, affirmed their commitment to continue their mission and provide the effective support in the region, adding that the capabilities of the UN are less than Darfur people demands, calling on the Sudanese authorities to contribute in the implementation of the Doha Peace Document.
He called on the UNAMID to exert all possible efforts to deploy in all areas.
Lamamre said that UNAMID has taken several measures to enter some areas in South Darfur State.
UNAMID Chief, Ibrahim Gambari revealed the organization of 120 workshops on Doha Document for peace in Darfur, pointing out to the considerable improvement with regard to the Agreement's implementation on the ground calling on the partners to support the UNAMID.
DRA Chief, Dr. Al-Tijani Al-Sisi said that the mechanism meeting will discuss issues regarding the regional authority, emphasizing the success of security arrangements process, calling on UNAMID to participate in security at the voluntary return area and early recovery operations.
