DRA, North Darfur Prepare to Hold Collective Conference for Darfuris

El-Fashir - The meeting of Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) and the Government of North Darfur on the arrangement for collective conference for the people of Darfur chaired by Osman Mohamed Yousif Kibir, the Governor of the State, and the Deputy Chairman of Darfur Regional Authority, in the presence of Haider Galu Koma, the Governor of West Darfur, debated arrangements and preparations for holding a collective conference for the people of Darfur in the period between June 24 – June 27 in El-Fashir.
The Governor of North Darfur stated that the conference convenes under various challenges requiring unifying Darfuri ranks to make the activities of the conference a success to come out with decisions and recommendations contributing to the implementation of Doha document for peace to create further stability conducive to development in Darfur.
Kibir pointed out necessity for briefing the leaders and Darfur community on the idea and objectives of the conference so that all are able to positively contribute to it. Kibir added there is need for mechanisms working at three levels in preparation and arrangement for holding the conference, calling for further consultation to rearrange the committees, their action plans and agreement to designations and description of their duties, announcing the state government’s support to the conference so that objectives aspired for are achieved.
For his part, Tajuddin Bashir Nyam, the Minister of Reconstruction, Development and Infrastructure at the Regional Authority, also the head of committee on preparation for the conference, explained arrangements taken by his committee for holding the conference and objectives it is seeking to achieve, mainly the need for agreement among the people of Darfur on a common vision for peace and stability; in addition to working for inculcating cultural heritage and employing it in favor of peace issues, mobilizing and developing the spirit of taking initiative.
Nyam said the conference in El-Fashir is an alternative to Darfur-Darfur–Dialogue stipulated in the agreement but comes to create general atmosphere and prepare for holding the dialogue, pointing out formation of a number of committee regarding the conference. The meeting saw in-depth discussion and deliberation on the time and venue of the conference as well as papers to be presented. The meeting concluded a set of directives that will speed up arrangements and preparations for the conference so that it comes out in an acceptable fashion.
