Doha Forum to be Activated Soon
Chairman of Darfur Regional Authority, Dr. Al-Tijani Al-Sisi, said that the Doha forum on peace in Darfur will witness activation in the coming days, especially in the wake of contacts and consultations conducted by the joint mediation under the chairmanship of the State of Qatar with the leaders of the Darfurian armed movements.
Al-Sisi affirmed, in an interview with the Qatari newspaper Al-Raya, that the Doha document is open for anyone who wants to enter into peace, pointing out that the right approach to address the issue of Darfur is through Darfurian consensus, not on the said document only, but also on the process of enforcement of the agreement.
He said that Qatar has decided to engage in the first phase of reconstruction in Darfur by $ 31 million, indicating to the security and political stability in Darfur states after the signing of the DDPD.
Al-Sisi announced that Doha would host donors' conference in the first week of December, citing the regional and international support for the conference, affirming the completion of all arrangements for the convening of the conference of the people of Darfur later this month.
Al-Sisi expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the State of Qatar under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and its keenness to achieve peace in Darfur and the hosting of the donors' conference, expressing optimism and confidence that the conference will be successful.
He indicated the great interest shown by the State of Qatar to establish a development bank in Darfur with a capital of two billion dollars for reconstruction and development in Darfur, pointing to the formation of a technical team to study the feasibility for the bank to become a reality.
