Cultivation of Genetically Modified Cotton a Violation of Safety Act

Khartoum - Chairman of the Board of Cotton in the General Secretariat of agricultural revival Mohammed Osman Alsubaiey confirmed that items of genetically modified Cotton was not showed to the Council of bio-safety for approval, Alsubaiey added that any product that cultivated without the approval of bio-safety Council will be considered as clear violation as per the bio-safety Act, indicating that the modified products represent a significant risk to the country's export from livestock.
Alsubaiey emphasizing that the cultivation of genetically modified cotton without scientific basis and taking into account bio-safety Act, considered as a crime in the right of the country and the farmers live up to the criminal accountability.
Alsubaiey, said it is regrettable and said that the Ministry of Agriculture started practical steps to import Chinese genetically modified cotton seed before checking with the agricultural Researches or bio-safety and formed a council including Cotton Research Coordinator in Sudan, and the Chairman of Rahad Farmers Union and others in this regard to travel to China to bring Chinese genetically modified cotton, which was planted in Rahad project.
He added that Sudan depends on the export of agriculture and the animal resources, and we should' not let any enemy to impose economical siege to stop our exports processes, confirming that if proved that Sudan adopted the cultivation of genetically modified crops weather its fodders or Durra that means a threats to our export from the agricultural and animal resources that are distinguished with no use of genetically modified fodders.
