Abu Ras: SPLM in Nuba Mountains Lacks Will and Freedom to Decide
Khartoum - The head of the delegation of Sons of Nuba in the United States of America Mohamed Abu Anja Abu Ras revealed that self-determination for South Sudan was the idea of National Democratic Alliance of which his party was a member. At the same time he affirmed that the ongoing war is not for sake of the people of Nuba Mountains in terms of security and stability, indicating that so-called Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – North Sector is not free to decide but things are controlled by the parent movement in South Sudan.
He said that the movement has left outstanding issues pending as a time bomb, criticizing the UN and the international community for recognizing South Sudan state without settlement to borders on which this state will be established.
He said Salva Kiir was seeking to persuade that the Popular Consultation stipulated in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement was self-determination for the region like South Sudan, affirming that the ongoing war in South Kordufan does not carry the expectations of the Nuba or their agenda. He said SPLM in the Nuba Mountains is under the control and influence of the mother SPLM in South Sudan because they are not divorced, wondering about the objective Malik Agar is seeking to achieve after winning elections in the Blue Nile.
Abu Ras, speaking on Radio Conference Show broadcast yesterday Friday, called on the people of Nuba Mountains for the necessity to be independent and break away with SPLM South Sudan to discuss the issues of the region through dialogue and negotiations instead of fighting, indicating that they [delegation] have an initiative to present to the government and SPLM –N to prepare climate and stop hostilities to allow the inhabitants of the Nuba Mountain opportunity to express their views on current events in the region.
Chief Commander of Joint Operations Lieutenant General Graham Omar affirmed that South Sudan is recruiting the sons of Nuba Mountains in favor of its objectives. Omar reemphasized necessity for disconnecting Divisions (9 and 10) with South Sudan so that South Kordufan enjoys peace. He said the armed forces are in control of security situation in South Kordufan, pointing out that the implementation security arrangements in South Kordufan failed due to intervention by some foreign parties despite agreement to sign the item of security arrangements in the state.
