EAC Defence Ministers, Chiefs of Staff Conference Kicks-off Today

Khartoum – Khartoum will host today the East African Community Ministers of Defence and Chiefs of Staff conference which will continue up to the 26th of May.

The conference aims at reviewing the performance of East African Region states and its peacekeeping operations during the first half of 2012 besides setting the future plans and policies.

The opening session will be addressed by Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Abdul Rahim Mohammed Hussein and some of his counterparts in the East Africa Community.

The conference will be attended by 14 countries including Eritrea, Ethiopian, Burundi, Djibouti, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Sudan as the host state.

The conference will also be attended by the Chief of the Coordination Panel of the EAC and Supplies Base Chief.

It is worth noting that the Standby peacekeeping troops of the EAC represent one of the five African troops which the AUPSC is preparing to form based on geographic locations.
