Buffon: “Just Juve in my Future”
Today’s afternoon, Gigi Buffon allowed Marco Storari and Alex Manninger to be under the spotlights (the latter being quite unfortunate: he didn’t manage to get on the pitch due to Chiellini’s injury at the final stage of the game). But Gigi left his mark on Juventus’ 30th title. He conceded just 16 goals, thus reaching an amount of 21 matches without letting in any goals: he displayed a very good shape like he did in the World Cup Competition occurred in 2006.
“Unfortunately, I did that mistake against Lecce - said Buffon at the end of the match - Without that error, this would have been my best season ever. I can compare it to the 2002/03 championship, when we got through the Champions League final. Up to the 29th game, I carried out just one save per match; in our seven last fixtures, my team-mates could provide me with a chair between the sticks… I’ve been in shape this year, I’ve been able to sustain all training sessions, and the club along with our manager Conte and our coach Filippi made me feel important, exactly like I wanted to be for this team. My future? We won’t have any problem for the contract renewal, everybody knows that I want to stay here, my colours are black and white. The captain band will have a certain weight, but I had wonderful teachers such as Maldini, Cannavaro and Del Piero, I’ll apply their teachings into our dressing room.”
Gigi also responded to questions about Del Piero, with whom he achieved several important results over these ten years at Juve and with the national side: “The public’s tribute has been really touching, and I’m hardly moved when speaking about football. But it’s been fair: Ale spent half of his life in fighting for this shirt.”
