UNDP Congratulates Government of Sudan on Heglig Victory

The Regional Representative of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Eastern Sudan Suraya Busurkova has congratulated the Government of Sudan on the recent victory against the invasion of South Sudan in Higlig. Speaking during the opening of a training course for Ministry of Finance in Kassala State on 22nd April 2012, she said UNDP is in Sudan to support the Government efforts and will continue to provide all the necessary support needed by the Government. She noted that UNDP in East Sudan is part and parcel of the Government. "The head is with Ministry of Finance and the body is at the State Secretariat". So far the Government has provided well being that has seen UNDP success in the activities for a long time. Responding to questions from Kassala Radio and TV, she was confident that the relationship between UNDP and the Government will continue being strong.
Speaking during the same function, the Minister of Finance of Kassala State expressed his appreciation of the congratulatory message from UNDP. He said, "Hearing those good words from UNDP is very important to us as people of Sudan" He said the Ministry of Finance is ready to offer any assistance that will be needed to ensure UNDP completes its activities smoothly. He said that the work of UNDP can be seen and there is a lot of improvement in the performance of the staff since UNDP started capacity building activities.
The training course is one of the activities of the Ministry of Finance funded by UNDP. The training was for auditors and accountants to add new skills in risk management. The training is a one week course for 60 staff in the State. In addition to the training, there are also equipments bought for the Ministry.
