ICRC Staff Abducted in El Fashir
El Fashir - Unknown armed group abducted the day before yesterday four Sudanese nationals working for the International Committee for the Red Cross who were on board of two trucks returning from Fatabirno area of Kutum locality in northern Darfur. The advisor of North Darfur governor Abu-Bakr Haroun said in statement to (SUNA) that the outlaw armed group that consisted of four persons were driving (Land cruiser), obstructed the two trucks and drove them towards (Kawra Mountains)located east to Kabkabia locality. He indicated that among the abductees is the sister of Suleiman Haroun, adding that the four staff were on a mission of field survey in Fatabirno area to assist farmers in those areas, saying the government authorities have taken all measures to get hold of the perpetrators.
On his part, the media and communications officer of the Red Cross in Khartoum Adel Sharif expressed in statement to SUNA the Committee’s grave concern over the fate of the abducted four staff that were on official routine mission aiming to assist people in the fields of livelihood. He also expressed his sorrow on the carjacking of the two trucks which were carrying the four staff in spite of the fact that it has the logo of the Red Cross, stating in this context that they have not yet received any contact from the abductors to know their demands. He added that the Red Cross Committee has made contacts with the authorities and security organs on the federal and state level to secure safe return for the four staff members.
