East, South Darfur States Declared Free from Insurgency
Khartoum - East and South Darfur States governments declared the regions free of rebel activity, saying the two areas are under their full control including their borders with South Sudan.
Maj. Gen. Fadallah Mohamed Humid, Governor of East Darfur State, told Sudan Vision yesterday that the security committee in the state is closely coordinating with Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Popular Defence Forces (PDF) to battle rebel movements.
He indicated the return of large number of IDPs to their villages after an improved security, adding that the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) promised to rebuild villages of voluntary returns during the coming days, citing the huge amount of money needed for reconstruction of the villages which the State can not afford.
Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of South Darfur State, Ali Adam, said his State is free of any rebel activity but indicated the present of dormant groups affiliated to Abdel Wahid Nur but the situation is under the full control of the State Government.
Adam also revealed spontaneous return of IDPs and all basic services are being provided across the State.
