Al Bashir Work Is Ongoing to Finalize Ruseiris Elevation Project
Khartoum -- The President of the Republic Omar Hassan Ahmed Al Bashir has said the state is exerting with all its institutions mounting efforts through the agricultural renaissance program to achieve a tangible leap in agricultural production through horizontal and vertical expansion in farmed areas to improved irrigation infrastructure and applications of suitable technologies; in addition to electrification and grouping projects in different state s.
He affirmed that preliminary results of pilot projects show that our country is capable of making a huge leap in seeds production size to meet local need and neighboring Arab and African brothers, affirming that structures of agricultural renaissance are still working for crystallizing ideas, planning for projects, supplying funds, facilitating investment, increasing improved seeds, expanding agricultural guidance and agricultural research and anything that will place the agricultural renaissance on solid scientific basis.
He affirmed that arrangements and plans for increasing agricultural production this season to arrive at aspired goals, pointing out the impact of war in Blue Nile and South Kordufan states on projects’ production there; in addition to shortage of rainfall in rain-fed agricultural regions like Gadarif and others.
He said speedy operations are ongoing on the elevation of Ruseiris Dam Project, where above 83 percent of the work has been accomplished, the remaining part expected to be finalized within this year.
Works on Setit and upper Atbara Complex has made considerable stage, indicating that Sudan has received $150million dollars from Arab Fund to construct dams, hafeers and water harvest in a number of states; $11million dollars for the White Nile State. He added that the government’s efforts in the field of animal development is promising with high results after successful intensive vaccination campaigns and carrying out training workshops on animal health, combating epidemics and implementing programs for sowing pasture seeds in many states, pointing out that animal export revenues accounted for above $370 million. He said that there is growing regional demand for Sudan’s animal products, which requires continuing effort to increase production and productivity and improving infrastructure to satisfy the growing need of these markets.
Al Bashir said that 2011 saw stability in electricity supply, which supported entry of supply unit projects to supply Martyr Mahmoud Mohamed Sharif Station with 200megawatt; Gare Generation Station (4) with capacity above 110megawatt which has contributed to increasing generation rate by 44 percent which has brought about stability in the National Grid. Growth in power generation accounted for around 13 percent compared with last year, and that work on the implementation of power generation projects is ongoing. The rate of implementation regarding Kosti and Fula projects exceeded 33% and 73& successively, with speedy work underway to execute other electricity transfer projects to connect the region to neighboring states after availability of funds and suitable security and stable conditions.
The President said efforts were continuing to execute 22 projects in the field of roads after finalizing Duwaim and Sennar bridges.
