LJM -Government Agree on the Implementation of Security Arrangements
Khartoum/ Al Fasher – The Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) announced its full readiness to enter into a phase of the verification procedure on the presence of its troops in Darfur states for implementing the provisions of the Doha Peace Document.
This is with a view to determine the size of those forces to enter directly in the process of security arrangements.
LJM demanded that the UNAMID fulfill their obligations towards the implementation of the verification stage in the set period.
Regional Authority Minister of Construction and infrastructure, head of the LJM political sector, Taj Al-Din Bashir Niyam confirmed that the security arrangements is one of the most important files that were discussed in the Doha document, noting that an agreement was reached between the movement and the government to implement it based on the document, according to specific timetables.
He said the meeting of the mechanism of monitoring the implementation of Doha document, which took place in the sixteenth of January in Al-Fasher, called on UNAMID to conduct a check to determine the size of forces on 12 of this month, noting that the government and the Movement have agreed to do so, attributing the inability of the movement to do so for not being able to deliver its own investigators to specific sites which led to its postponement to February 25.
He said that his movement has taken all the necessary arrangements towards the implementation of the verification in the new date (yesterday), revealing that the checks on the field presence of the forces did not start yesterday as a result of the failure of UNAMID to transport LJM controllers to different sites, along not enable them to enter the UNAMID premises in Kabkabiya and Geneina.
Niyam said that a joint meeting including LJM and UNAMID has been held in Al Fashir, where it discussed ways to the success of the checks, adding that the meeting had ensured on UNAMID to meet its obligations towards the implementation of verification, adding that UNAMID will bear any failure occurs in the verification process as the body concerned, calling them to hold full responsibilities to carry out verification.
