Foreign Minister Meets Envoy of Secretary General of United Nations
Khartoum - The Minister of Foreign Affairs; Ali Ahmed Karti, received Tuesday Mr. Haile Menkerios, the envoy of the UN Secretary General for Sudan and the State of South Sudan, who briefed the minister on a number of contacts he made in the past period with regional and international parties concerning the relations between the two countries and completing settlement of the post-separation issues.
Menkerios reviewed the course of the negotiations recently held in Addis Ababa which he attended as UN official.
He referred to the contacts made in order to contain the tone of media escalation that followed the end of the negotiation session.
He also reviewed their vision on the humanitarian issue in the states of Southern Kordofan and the Blue Nile, and a number of ideas where discussed for the assessment of the humanitarian situation in both states which was previously presented to the UN Undersecretary for Humanitarian Affairs and by the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Humanitarian Aid Commission and will be discussed with a number of concerned authorities.
Meanwhile, Karti welcomed the efforts done by the envoy of the Secretary-General indicating that the Sudan has no interest in escalation, stressing Sudan keenness to build good relations with the State of South Sudan. Meanwhile, he shed light on the situation in South Kordofan and the Blue Nile States.
He reiterated the government' commitment to participate in the coming negotiations in Addis Ababa.
