Periscope :Is Unity the Only Solution for the West ?!

The economic and financial crises that have been ravaging the West have laid to deep skepticism and doubt about the European unity ( Euro Zone  and even the  European Union as well as the alliance with the USA).But is there really an alternative for Europe and the West than Unity?! A look at history may assist in finding the answer.
During the Second World War the distinguished British politician and historian Winston Churchill lectured that: The only way forward for the shattered continent was to re-create the European family, to make some sort of greater union of the continents dispirits perpetually warring parties.  Winston  Churchill was not   alone in this vision ,it was shared by the American President Harry Truman and General George Marshall who after the War designed ,advocate  and implemented  the US plan (known as the Marshall Plan or Project) to rebuild Europe.
 
More recently, the reputable British historian Simen Schama have warned logically and strongly against the rising sentiment among the population against the European Union and the Atlantic Alliance (Newsweek, 12 Dec.2011).He wrote that there is a real possibility of a recoil from the assumption of mutual dependence on which postwar Europe, and indeed Atlantic prosperity founded.
The Scham added that the result will be ugly –a collapse of trade akin to the disaster of the 19330s and its natural concomitant: the rise of snarling, authoritarian nationalism, in reaction to the failed collaborative project, riding a wave pf anti-immigrant and student neo-nationalist belligerence. It could happen in the United States, too, where the presidential rhetoric of coming together has failed to soften the rhetoric of mutual deionization.
But it is important to note that Simon Schama like most Western scholars and academicians have not went far enough to examine in depth why the support for the European Union and the Atlantic Alliance is evaporating among the population in the West.
The simple answer which they have tried to avoid came in the form of the large demonstrations calling for the Occupation of Wall Street and The City the international financial centre in London and other European capitals.
The demonstrators by targeting these very important international financial centers have clearly demonstrated that they see this Union and Alliance as a syndicate of bankers, financers and leaders of international corporations to siphon all the resources for the benefit of the few at the expense of the whole majority. The fact that cannot be denied by any academic rhetoric is that 90 percent of the cost of the bills of the international crises was paid by the poor.
It is also ,interesting to note that in 1849 ,the famous French  author and reputable democracy advocate Victor Hugo have written ; A day will come when war will be seem absurd and when the only field of battle will be markets opening to trade and minds opening to ideas. A day will come when all the nations of the Content, without losing their distinctive qualities and their glorious individuality will be merged closely within a superior unit and will form one European brotherhood.
The vision of Victor Hugo of free markets and minds turned from the 20th Century and onward to a domination and monopoly of political and financial by multinational corporations and banks and this have spread   to the aspects of the life of societies.  The minds are no freer to receive any new ideas or views because the Media is nearly completely controlled by big business and channel only what corporate business want to feed the public. This also explains the increasing reliance on the new forms of mass communication through the Internet like Face Book, Totter, etc. 
And let us not forget that today academic institution  have not been ammine  from this capitalistic free market cancer and most of them  are at present driven by the forces of profit and loss and how to serve the best interest of big business to guarantee the continues flow of funding. Naturally, losing in the process their impartiality, creditability, integrity and independence.
In conclusion we want to say that the European Unity and the Alliance with the US will sooner or later be untied unless there is a radical change in its direction to include ordinary people interest.
