Darfur Polio Eradication Campaign Preparations Complete
Khartoum - General directorate of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) announced completions of arrangement to start polio eradication campaign in the three states of Darfur. The campaign targets 1, 630, 950 children whose ages are between less than one year old to five years in North, South and West Darfur.
About ten thousand team works have already been trained and equipped with required tools to launch the campaign from December, 20 to 22.
Darfur states will also witness media campaigns aiming to raise people's awareness of importance of vaccination against polio. Director of EPI Amani Abdul Moneim confirmed readiness to launch the campaign as scheduled; expressing that local communities and families will cooperate with EPI, calling for armed group not to obstruct work of the teams.
Meanwhile, Director of General Directorate of Primary Health in Health Ministry Talal Al-Fadil stated to press that implementation of the campaign is conducted within framework government's commitment to boosting health services alongside with commitment of World Heath Organization (WHO) and United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) to eradication of polio in the country.
